Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the size and shape of the female breast. It is therefore an intervention indicated for women with:
Excessively small chest.
Asymmetric chest, correcting the difference in size between both breasts.
Chest empty after breast-feeding or weight loss, thus reaffirming it.
With this surgery it is possible to increase the size of the breast one or several sizes, introducing the type of breast prosthesis suitable for each case. The patient, under the supervision of her plastic surgeon, selects the shape, size and position of the implant / prosthesis, as well as the location of the incision, among other aspects. Nowadays implants / prostheses of very high quality and resistance are used; The patient must always be informed of the characteristics of the implants / prostheses that will be implanted.
There are two types of implants / mammary prostheses in general, round or anatomical lines. Most of the implants / prostheses placed are round, but in some occasions the plastic surgeon will recommend an anatomical prosthesis (when there is scarcely any breast tissue or when the distance between the groove and the areola is very small). A disadvantage described for these implants is the asymmetry, which can appear if they rotate inside their housing.
